“Aşevi” -Soup Kitchen
by : Zaliha Erdoğan Peçe
Zaliha Erdoğan Peçe is an award winning artist, a PhD candidate at Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakıf Üniversitesi in the College of Fine Arts, a teacher and juror of the miniature arts, and a scholar of Islamic art history. Her artwork has been on exhibit in Türkiye and at international venues.
This piece she shares with us is called “Soup Kitchen”. The soup kitchen constitutes one of the most important institutions of the state and a key aspect of community solidarity. In this work, where community is the main theme, the distribution of the meals cooked by the soup kitchen to the needy is depicted. Miniature art requires close analysis to see all of the detail the artist includes. Every detail is historically accurate and significant: the culinary equipment, the designs on the plates and clothing, the architecture, the modes of transportation and the floral accents.
Materials: Acrylic, Guaj, Watercolors and Gold
